The use of stainless steel in contemporary art continues growing and evolving as artists explore new lines of expression and push the boundaries of their creativity.

There are common reasons why artists choose stainless over other materials:

  • Versatility. Stainless steel is a material that can be shaped, cut, polished and welded in a variety of ways. This allows artists to explore a wide range of artistic techniques and styles and to give their work their "personal touch".
  • Durability. Known for its corrosion resistance which makes stainless steel ideal for designs that are outdoors or exposed to humid or polluted environments. It ensures structural integrity for many years, even in adverse conditions.
  • Modern appearance. The bright finish is the most popular choice as it adds a modern and sophisticated look to the works of art in which it is used. Its reflective appearance creates visual effects when combined with the light and environment where  it is placed.

  • Technological innovation. With the latest advances in technology and manufacturing, artists have access to a variety of specialised tools and equipment that allow them to work with stainless steel in new and exciting ways. From laser cutting to precision welding, they open up new creative possibilities that are not overlooked.
  • Sustainability. Let's not forget that most of the raw materials used to make stainless steel are scrap and, at the end of their useful life, can be recycled again.

There are many grades of stainless steel. There are alloys that behave much better in outdoor environments, coastal areas, in contact with salt… than others that, for example, stand out for their resistance to high loads. To know the location, the use and the treatment that we are going to carry out, is primordial to choose the appropriate one.

Another variable that influences not only the appearance, but also the lifetime of our artwork is the finish we give it. Experiment with different polishing, brushing and engraving techniques to create interesting and unique visual effects, without forgetting that we want our artwork to last over time.

Throughout the creation process, it is important to use clean tools and equipment so as not to contaminate our material.
