THE CHALLENGE AND CONCEPT

The Ceramic House project addresses the facade renovation of a boutique in Amsterdam's historic center, taking on the challenge of integrating contemporary architecture into a heritage environment. The proposal reinterprets the brick architecture established over the years, drawing inspiration from the textures and folds of the art of weaving. The main aesthetic and technical challenge lay in replicating the silhouette and tripartite structure of the original building using organic and wavy forms without losing harmony with the streetscape.

THE SOLUTION AND ITS DEVELOPMENT

Studio RAP executed the proposal by combining algorithmic design, custom 3D printing, and high-precision artisanal glazing. The ceramic pieces—larger in format at the base and glazed in pearl white and red tones on the upper floors—interact dynamically with light and passersby as their viewing angle changes. The result is a luxury commercial storefront that respects the historical scale while introducing an unprecedented architectural language.

Performance and Properties
Stainless steel serves as the load-bearing structure of the facade, ensuring maximum mechanical durability and corrosion resistance against atmospheric agents. 

Design and Finishes
High-precision laser cutting allows for crisp edges that catch the light and outline the organic composition of the ceramic pieces. 

Direct Applications
Structural frames, load-bearing mounting cassettes, and joint framing. 

Life Cycle
Low maintenance requirements and high recyclability ensure a sustainable and long-lasting infrastructure.
