Little path to the fair

Seville's April Fair is one of the most emblematic events in Spain, a celebration where tradition is shown in all its splendour. Among the most characteristic elements of this festival are the horse-drawn carriages that parade around the fairgrounds, carrying families, authorities and equestrian enthusiasts.
The use of horse-drawn carriages at the fair has its roots in the 19th century, when Sevillian high society used to attend the event in luxury carriages. Over time, this tradition was consolidated and today it is an essential part of the festive atmosphere.
Despite their traditional aesthetics, carriages have evolved in their manufacture to ensure greater durability and comfort. One of the most notable innovations in recent years has been the incorporation of stainless steel in their structure.

This material is mainly used in the chassis, hardware and certain metal components, offering a number of key advantages:
- Increased corrosion resistance: in a festive environment where buggies are exposed to the elements and constant friction, stainless steel ensures greater durability, especially in humid climates or in the presence of dust and mud.
- Reduced maintenance: unlike other metals, which require periodic treatment against corrosion, stainless steel maintains its clean and shiny appearance with little or no maintenance.
- Lightweight and safe: although it does not completely replace wood and other traditional materials, stainless steel allows to manufacture lighter structures without compromising the stability of the carriage.

In this kind of application, AISI 304 stainless steel is generally used due to its resistance to humidity, dust, temperature changes and contact with organic materials such as manure or plant remains, which are common in equestrian environments. Moreover, its conformability allows parts to be manufactured with precision and without compromising their integrity. In buggies subjected to more intensive use or exposed to higher salinity environments, AISI 316 is chosen, which, thanks to its molybdenum content, offers superior protection against chloride corrosion.
Thanks to this fusion of tradition and modernity, the carriages of the Feria de Abril continue to be a symbol of Andalusian culture, adapting to the new times without losing their historical essence.
